Sunday Night Heat UK Report
18-1-04, Sky One
By Steve Knight

Hey everybody, and welcome back to the (sort of) weekly Heat report. Just a
quick bit of UK news before we start, Stone Cold Steve Austin will be
signing copies of his new book, “The Stone Cold Truth”, at WH Smith in
Lakeside, Essex, this Thursday between 6pm and 8pm. He’ll also be in London
this week, but I’m nearer Essex so don’t really care. Anyway, on with the
show!

Marc Lloyd and Jonathan Coachman welcome us aboard and send it in to ring
announcer Howard Finkel for our opening contest, which is –

The Hurricane and Rosey vs. Mark Jindrak and Garrison Cade
The Hurricane and Jindrak start this one off, with Hurricane ducking under a
lock-up attempt and moving into a waistlock before eventually releasing the
hold. The two then go for a second lock-up, but again Hurricane ducks out of
the way and works a schoolboy for 1 before deciding to cinch in a headlock.
Jindrak breaks the hold with a right hand to the back and then shoves
Hurricane into the ropes, leapfrogging him on the rebound. Hurricane quickly
goes for a rollback pin off the ropes but Jindrak holds on and then walks
straight into an armdrag. Hurricane then slaps on an armbar before twisting
the arm around and then going straight back to the hold again. Jindrak
breaks it by shoving Hurricane into the ropes again, but Hurricane makes the
blind tag to Rosey and then boots Jindrak in the shoulder when he lowers the
boom too early. The face team then whip Jindrak off the ropes and take him
over with a double hiptoss before Hurricane runs the ropes, allowing Rosey
to hiptoss him on top of Jindrak, which gets 2 for Rosey, who then twists
Jindrak’s arm around. Jindrak breaks the hold with a knee to the gut and
then twists Rosey’s arm round before tagging out to Cade, who twists the arm
round again before slapping on a wristlock. Rosey breaks the hold with an
arm twist of his own and then cinches in a headlock, only for Cade to battle
out with a series of lefts to the gut. He then whips Rosey off the ropes,
drops down to the mat and scores with a reverse elbow. When Rosey doesn’t go
down, Cade delivers a headbutt but ends up hurting himself instead. Rosey
then delivers a big headbutt of his own followed by a bodyslam, but then
misses an elbow drop off the ropes. Cade unloads with a series of right
hands to force Rosey back into the heel corner, where he delivers a reverse
elbow to Jindrak on the apron. Cade cuts him off though with a series of
shoulder thrusts in the corner and then goes for an Irish Whip, only for
Rosey to reverse it and then send Cade back into the same corner, only to
then miss a shoulder charge and go sailing into the ringpost. Jindrak tags
into the match again and, as Cade extends Rosey’s arm, hops up to the top
rope and delivers a reverse flying tackle to the arm for 2 before slapping
on an armbar on the mat. Rosey tries to break the hold twice by lifting
Jindrak into the air, but both times he increases the pressure on the arm
and maintains the hold. Rosey eventually fights out with a series of right
hands and then whips Jindrak off the ropes, only to lower the boom too early
and receive a boot to the head followed by a cross armbreaker from Jindrak
for 2. Cade then tags back in and delivers a boot to Rosey’s exposed
shoulder before slapping on a wristlock. Rosey tries to fight out of the
hold, but Cade piles on the pressure until Rosey uses his strength to flip
Cade over his shoulder and into the corner, where he tags in Jindrak.
Jindrak comes in and twists Rosey’s arm round again, only for Rosey to roll
out of the move and then kick-out at Jindrak before rolling into his corner
and making the hot tag to Hurricane, who comes in with a couple of jumping
clotheslines to Jindrak followed by a dropkick to Cade. He then goes to boot
Jindrak in the gut, but Jindrak catches it, spins him around and goes for a
back suplex, only for Hurricane to shift his weight in mid-air and score
with a bodypress for 2. Jindrak then reverses an Irish Whip attempt but runs
straight into a reverse elbow from Hurricane, who then climbs up top and
hits a flying Overcast for 2, with Cade breaking the cover. Rosey then runs
in and floors Cade with a hard right hand before kicking him to the outside,
which distracts the referee. As he forces Rosey from the ring, Cade gets
back in and blindsides Hurricane with a hard forearm shot to the back of the
head. As the referee turns around, Jindrak makes the cover and grabs the
3-count.
Winners: Mark Jindrak and Garrison Cade

Later tonight – Steven Richards vs. Scott Steiner

Next – Triple H had something to say on RAW.

WWE Rewind – Two weeks ago on RAW, Shawn Michaels hit the ring after Triple
H had helped fellow Evolution members Ric Flair and Batista retain the World
Tag Team Championship against The Dudley Boyz, and gave him some Sweet Chin
Music.

We then catch highlights from RAW, where Jonathan Coachman conducted an
in-ring interview with World Heavyweight Champion Triple H and his Royal
Rumble challenger in a Last Man Standing Match, Shawn Michaels. At the end
of the segment, HBK gave The Coach some Sweet Chin Music to show HHH how
quickly it could all be over.

The Don’t Try This At Home promo airs.

Royal Rumble Qualifying Match
Rico (w/Miss Jackie) vs. Tommy Dreamer
The two lock up to start, with Dreamer working a top wristlock into a
headlock, only for Rico to escape that with a top wristlock of his own into
a hammerlock before taking Dreamer down with a double leg trip and then
riding his back like a cowboy. Disgusted, Dreamer slaps Rico across the face
and then hits a bodyslam before clotheslining him over the top rope and to
the outside. As Rico gets back up onto the apron, Dreamer slingshots him
into the ring but then allows himself to be distracted by Miss Jackie at
ringside, who is busy trying to steal Tommy’s Singapore cane. The two
wrestle with the object until Rico delivers a forearm to the back of
Dreamer’s neck, followed by a surfboard drop. After a couple of stomps in
the corner and a right hand, Rico delivers another forearm to the back
followed by a bodyslam and then the gay pin for 2.
The camera then pans out to Jackie at ringside, who sneakily swipes the cane
out of the corner. When we return to the ring, Rico is busy choking Dreamer
over the middle rope. When the referee admonishes, Jackie does the same
thing from ringside. Rico then goes for a whip off the ropes, but Dreamer
reverses it into a Sky High and both men are down.
Rico is first to his feet, but Dreamer lands a series of rights and lefts to
the gut on the mat before blocking a right hand and then decking Rico with a
hard right of his own. He then catches an attempted boot from Rico and
scores with an inverted atomic drop followed by a sidewalk slam for 2. He
then hits an Irish Whip, only for Rico to get the boot up on the corner
charge. He then hops up to the second rope and looks for a flying double
axhandle, but Dreamer catches him with a shot in mid-air and grabs a
2-count, with Jackie placing Rico’s foot on the ropes. As Jackie then turns
around as if nothing happened, Dreamer pulls her up to the apron. Rico then
runs at Dreamer from behind, but Tommy moves and Rico almost hits Jackie. He
avoids doing so, but Dreamer rolls him up from behind with a schoolboy for
2. Rico then reverses a whip attempt, only to lower the boom too early and
get caught in a front facelock, with Dreamer looking for the DDT. Rico
shoves Dreamer into the ropes though, allowing Jackie to clobber him from
behind with the Singapore cane, behind the referee’s back. Dreamer then
walks straight into a spinning roundhouse kick from Rico for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Rico
Rico will now participate in the Royal Rumble Match.

A graphic is then shown for the Royal Rumble Match. According to this, 18
men have entered so far. They are: Booker T, Rikishi, Nunzio, The Big Show,
Scott Steiner, Christian, Kane, Goldberg, Matt Morgan, Chris Jericho, Mark
Henry, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, Chris Benoit, Billy Gunn, Kurt Angle,
John Cena and Rico.

Still to come – Spike Dudley vs. Rob Conway

Next – Stone Cold Steve Austin and Matt Hardy Version 1 had a little chat on
RAW.

The Royal Rumble “30 Men” promo airs.

We then catch highlights from RAW, where Matt Hardy Version 1 tells Sheriff
Stone Cold Steve Austin he wants to face someone he has never faced before.
Goldberg responds to the challenge and eventually defeats Hardy with the
Jackhammer before announcing he will be in the Royal Rumble Match.

Rob Conway (w/Rene Dupree) vs. Spike Dudley
As the La Resistance members make their way down to the ring, we are shown a
clip from four months ago on RAW, when Dupree and fellow Resistance member
Sylvan Grenier botched a Bon Soir from the ring to a table on the outside,
causing Spike to land awkwardly on the back of his neck.
Spike ducks a lock-up to start and then cinches in a headlock. Conway
bounces him off the ropes to break the hold and decks Spike with a
shoulderblock on the rebound, only to then miss an elbow drop, allowing
Spike to go back to the headlock. Conway lifts Spike into the air to try and
break the hold, but Spike shifts his weight in mid-air and works a headlock
takedown instead, which gets a 2-count as Conway hits the mat. Conway then
bounces Spike off the ropes again to break the hold before dropping to the
mat. When he goes for a leapfrog though, Spike drills him with an inverted
atomic drop and then scores with a Dudley Dog-style headlock takedown, which
gets another 2-count as Conway hits the mat. Conway eventually breaks the
hold with a right to the gut and then shoves Spike into the ropes, where he
hangs on. Infuriated, Conway charges, only for Spike to flip him over the
top rope and to the outside, where Dupree tends to him before rolling Conway
back inside.
Conway begs for mercy, but Spike has none and dropkicks him into the corner,
where he uses his chest as a human treadmill. Conway then comes out and
misses a right hand attempt, allowing Spike to cinch in another headlock and
look for another Dudley Dog-like manoeuvre. Conway shoves him chest-first
into the corner though and then shoves him to the outside, where Dupree
slams his head into the apron before rolling him back in for a 2-count.
Conway then whips Spike off the ropes and drops him with a reverse elbow
before hitting a couple of elbow drops. 1-2-kickout. 1-2-kickout.
1-2-kickout. Conway then delivers a snapmare and cinches in a Cobra
Clutch-like manoeuvre on the mat.
Spike eventually elbows his way free, runs the ropes, ducks under a
clothesline and then scores with a spinning headscissors, which sends Conway
to the outside. As Dupree tends to him again, Spike climbs up top and decks
them both with a suicidal flying bodypress to the outside before rolling
Conway back inside and climbing back up top again. Conway gets to his feet
and meets Spike with a right hand to the gut though and then attempts a
superplex, only for Spike to battle back with some rights to the gut of his
own. He then bites Conway on the forehead and shoves him down to the mat,
following up with his big double stomp from the top rope. As Spike goes for
the Dudley Dog, Dupree hops up onto the apron, which prompts Spike to take a
swing at him. Dupree drops out of the way though and Conway charges, only to
miss a clothesline. Spike then works a rollback pin off the ropes for 2. As
Conway kicks out though, Dupree delivers a right hand from ringside. Spike
then walks straight into Conway’s beautiful bouncing spinning neckbreaker
for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Rob Conway

Next – Rob Van Dam and Randy Orton met on RAW.

The Mick Foley “court jester” promo airs, paid for by the friends and
supporters of Randy Orton.

We then catch highlights from RAW, where Randy Orton successfully defended
his Intercontinental Championship against Rob Van Dam, pinning him after a
DDT with RVD on the second rope. After the match, Triple H came down to
celebrate with his fellow Evolution member and then the two of them point to
the empty seat at ringside that they offered Mick Foley.

The Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H Royal Rumble promo airs.

WWE Slam of the Week – Two weeks ago on RAW, Steven Richards beat Test with
an illegal rollback pin. After the match, Test drilled Richards’ “flower”
Victoria with a Big Boot.

Scott Steiner vs. Steven Richards
Richards comes down to the ring wearing an armband with “flower” written
across it. Ahh, how cute. Marc Lloyd informs us that Victoria received a
dislocated jaw at the hands of Test.
The two lock up to start, with Steiner wrenching the arm and then working a
wristlock into a fireman’s carry takeover before riding Richards, amateur
style. He then chokes Richards over the middle rope three times before
scoring with an amateur slam, using his weight to keep Richards on the mat
and pummelling him with a series of right hands, elbows and clubbing blows
on the mat, eventually releasing the hold to flex his muscles.
When Richards gets up, Steiner sends him to the ropes with a boot to the
gut, where he lands a chop and a right hand before whipping Richards to the
other side and then following up with a big clothesline on the rebound.
Steiner then hits the Big Poppa Elbow Drop for 2 before doing a few
press-ups. He then goes for a bodyslam, but Richards slips out the back
door, shoves Steiner into the ropes and then scores with a Stun Gun on the
rebound, followed by a schoolboy for 2. Steiner halts Richards’ momentum
with a knee to the gut though, and then drills him with the Complete Shot
for the quick win.
Winner: Scott Steiner
After the match, Test hits the ring and starts yelling at Richards on the
mat before celebrating with Steiner. He then teases leaving the ring, but
gets back in and drills Richards with the Big Boot before finally making his
way up the ramp with Steiner.

End Show.

Well, that’s all for this week. I’ll be back for WWE Classics next week, but
until then you can email me at steviek@rajah.com.
